I’m a very occasional race-goer, but the appalling behaviour of drunken racegoers I have encountered on public transport on the way from and even to prestige meetings like Ascot and Goodwood wouldn’t encourage me to give it another try.
Of course in the good old days when both the Derby and the Challenge Cup were on the BBC, they would have not be scheduled against each other. While the media landscape has clearly moved on, the art of avoiding scheduling clashes is oft overlooked by individual sports.
Thanks David! With so much sport in a crowded calendar and so many channels, I guess clashes are almost unavoidable, although I agree that terrestrial ones are especially problematic
