Love that you celebrate that there are nine majors in golf. But as you credit the Chevron with its title sponsor, do please also recognise that the major being staged on the Old Couse at St Andrews is the AIG Women's Open, which is The R&A's women's major. AIG deserves the recognition for its commitment to women's golf.

Hi Karen! Nice to hear from you. I’d have preferred not to plug Chevron but couldn’t find any historic title for that event which didn’t have a sponsor name attached! You’ve given AIG a spin for me with your comment. Do the golfers refer to the Chevron or something else? My guess is they call your major the Open rather than the AIG…

Yes, the previous was a sponsor's name too but it was always known as the Dinah Shore (founded by the actress in the 70s). For our championship we obviously prefer the name check for the rights but also to avoid the confusion with The Open (golf's original championship!!) and the USGA's championships the US Open and the Women's US Open which also has a presenting partner ie the name of the championship plus presented by....

Stint?

Block, set, group. Murmur anyone?

I am thinking of sending The Hundred commentators a list of collective nouns this season as the innovation well appears to be running dry. Have they been specifically banned from using 'over' lest it sounds too much like cricket?

I am not sure how much adaptation is needed by the scoring nerd. Presumably it's just one less dot or digit in each box of the bowling analysis. And a second consecutive box if the bowler gets an extended go. Rocket science it ain't.

Some boffins at Bournemouth Universit have made a study of The Hundred's impact. They confess they hadn't thought to ask their interviewed 'new audience' members if all this nonsense makes the game easier to follow. I think that's your answer.

Has anyone asked Mikey Holding what he thinks? I suggest they stand back if they do.

Hi John! Thanks very much for your comment. I think I’ll copyright ‘stint’ and send an invoice to the ECB! The scoring anecdote in Ben Bloom’s book is a microcosm of the cultural clash between The Hundred and pre-existing forms of cricket - including physical scorecards not being available for the former

“It is the England team whose commercial success props up the counties” - but the counties provide the players, coaches, pathways, grounds which allows the cash from Test match tickets and tv revenue to flow to the ECB. It’s symbiosis, not one “propping up” the other.

Thanks very much for reading and commenting Mark! In essence I agree, hence my point that the ECB would be unwise to jeopardise the current 18 pathways to international status. But there are some in cricket in leadership roles who clearly believe that’s a risk they’d be prepared to take to get their mitts on the private cash…

Snoozefest? From my perspective it was brilliant to watch. Intense and agonising. Should the neutral expect to be entertained?

On a separate note, as a follower (relatively distanced) of KCCC, I am baffled by the world of cricket which is struggling with its identity. It is not really ONE sport any longer.

Ah, but you’re a Gooner James! I’d have had a different view had it been ‘my’ team in action. Not sure whether Arsenal playing for a draw will prove the right choice though as it’s now Liverpool’s to lose. Thanks for reading!
