I'm going to steal this bit - cos it's right, in theory, but the market only works when prices go up, the ECB won't let the prices fall to maximise attendance. Or do they? Other than free/cheap final days, eg Oval 2005: 'It could, for example, be a solution to sparse crowds at fourth days of Test matches - start pricing low to build a base of spectators prepared to bet on securing a cheap day of international cricket. If the contest looks to be stretching into the final couple of days, last-minute demand will push prices higher for those happy to make a late decision and pay more.'

currently, the model works in reverse. pay high at the front and low at the end

The more Bazball prevails, the greater the pressure to solve the 4th day conundrum. The current model clearly only works for the Ashes. Remember though that the individual host grounds handle ticketing, not the ECB itself - although clearly there will be much discussion between all parties
