I remember having a debate with EBU broadcasters about how to deal with doping in cycling. Some took the view they would drop the sport if there were more cases. My view was that we shouldn’t punish sports for coming clean. Snooker took a lot of flack for banning a number of players for match fixing (the other scourge of sport). Sport in crisis headlines everywhere. I would maintain it’s the sports that don’t uncover doping and match fixing that are at threat. We need to change the narrative towards the view everyone is at it, and if sports don’t catch wrongdoers they are not trying hard enough.
